Week 15 Dec. 3 - Dec. 7

Weekly Notes from 4th Grade Week 4

Weekly Notes from 4th Grade

Our Scantron testing will start Tuesday morning with the math component and Wednesday morning with the reading component.  We will take these tests on the Chromebooks in our classroom. Both tests should take approximately one hour each.  The test is computer adaptive, so the actual test makes the necessary accommodations for each child to gauge his/her strengths and weaknesses.  Please make sure that your student is well rested and has had a good breakfast to be able to perform to the best of his or her ability.

Spelling test will be Wednesday. We start Wednesday with Vocabulary. It is completely different than Spelling. The vocabulary test consists of following five sections:

  1. Matching the meaning
  2. Synonyms
  3. Antonyms
  4. Completing the sentence
  5. Word association

These sections match the five sections in the orange vocabulary book.  Students will also need to know how to spell the words. If the students study the five sections and their correct spelling, they should do well on the test. We have an online version this year, so we will use our Chromebooks to help us learn the words and practice for the test. The test will also be taken on our Chromebooks. Please do not wait to start to study the night before the test. The test will be Wednesday, October 3rd.

Math: We are adding and subtracting with larger numbers and regrouping.

Reading/Writing:  We are writing Cinquains poems – 5 lines with 2,4,6,8, and 2 syllables per line. This week, they should be posted in the hallway. Come down and read them.

English:  We will have an English quiz on Chapter 5, simple and compound sentences, on Friday.

Religion quiz on Wednesday.  Students need to be able to write the first three commandments.

Social Studies:  We are almost finished Chapter 1 in Social Studies. We will have a test on Friday. Please have your child study each night.  Please do not wait until Thursday night to study. This usually does not result in good grade.

Reading logs are turned in every Monday.  Students must sign along with a parent’s signature.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Many Blessings,

Mrs. Rony
